painting in a journal

Hey there fellow artists!
Just want to tell you all about the fabulous journals available from John Purcell Papers
They have 50 sheets of Saunders Waterford 200lb paper in a hardback stitch bound book. They come in a4 anda3 sizes and are fantastic for sketching.
they cost about 14 pounds sterling

I take them with me when I go teaching or painting on the continent and have done so for many years, with the result that I now have a huge amount of reference for those rainy irish days.

the one tip I would give is just to say
DON'T BE PRECIOUS ABOUT YOUR JOURNAL
they are fabulous but a journal is a place for you to grow and develope
to make mistakes, and learn from them , it's not a showpiece that you have to stress out over
happy painting
Annemarie

Funny that I read this today and this morning I was thinking of creating a teaching journal. I sit and draw and explain on scraps of paper while I teach and often my students disappear with all my scribblings. I was thinking that this may be a good way to produce a teaching manual. By keeping it in a book, I won't need to re-do it every time that I tried to explain the lesson over to a student. Thank you for this. You have inspired me to get going.

    Hey Jax
    Thanks for that
a great idea ......think I will try it too
I find also on a watercolour class that I encourage students to bring a journal so if I want to show them something I do it in their journal
the advantages are that they have these relevant notes at home and they build a book sorting out their individual problems
also they can have a practise before they do it in their painting and this builds confidence
it also means that the finished work is all done by themselves
