I have always found it strange that Ruskin, who 40 years earlier
had championed Turner's lack of “definition of form,” should attack
Whistler through this picture.
Just a thought that came to me while watching the BBC six-part
drama following the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood - the men who blew
the art world apart
This painting is one of my favourites. It has mood, atmosphere,
movement and a feeling of being there. I wonder if he Whistled
